On Thursday night, we hosted a fun, new DIY project at TechShop’s Ladies Night. It was the first time that we did the El-Wire Sign project with a group, and it was ridiculously fun! The event sold out, so we to turn away some ladies seeking walk-in tickets. (We would have totally let more ladies come play, but we had enough materials for 20 guests!)
Since the project is so popular, we’ve decided to run it as a workshop at TechShop. I’m also going to post the instructions and templates here, so anyone can do the project independently at home.
The El-Wire Sign project lets students pick an el-wire color and graphic, and then glue the el-wire to acrylic to make their own glowing sign.
We used a laser cutter to etch the pattern into acrylic, and the heat bender to make the sign stand up. Students are then free to glue the el-wire according to the graphic template, and end the night with glowing signs to decorate their desk or apartment.
